Kate Merritt

Kate Merritt is the Director of Annual Giving & Alumni Programs at Shorecrest Preparatory School. A native of Northeast Missouri, Kate attended Wake Forest University in North Carolina, where she studied theatre, communications and film production. After graduating from college, Kate moved to California to be with her husband, an Officer in the US Navy. While in California, Kate discovered the world of independent schools, and has been working in Advancement ever since--telling the stories of students and faculty and inspiring philanthropic support. After six years in California, where Kate and her husband welcomed twin boys, Kate and her family relocated to Atsugi, Japan, for an adventure-filled two years. Following a one-year stint in Newport, Rhode Island, Kate and her family relocated to St. Petersburg in 2014, where Kate was thrilled to discover the Shorecrest Preparatory School community. Her sons, Miles and Oliver, are in kindergarten at the school.

For many families around the country, summer means moving trucks. Each year, millions of people take advantage of the school break to move to a new place. As a military family, we're often a part of this yearly migration—we have moved with our young children three times in past five years! Whether you're moving down the street or to a new city, moving can cause anxiety for anyone, but it can be especially stressful for our children.
